Rovaniemi: hotel planned on top of Revontuli shopping centre

Rovaniemi’s city board decided on 28 September to put the plan on display. The new section would rise to 9 floors on the Koskikatu side and house a hotel.

The new section on top of the centre is earmarked for a hotel and would rise to 9 floors on the Koskikatu side. The city aims to bring the plan to the council in late winter 2027.

Rovaniemi’s city board decided on 28 September to put a new zoning plan for the Revontuli shopping centre on public display. The plan allows an extension on top of the centre’s low section in the city centre, and the city earmarks the new section for a hotel.

The part of the extension facing Koskikatu would have 9 floors. The top floor would be half the size of the largest one and set back from the street.

A lower 5-storey section would run along Lapinkävijäntie.

The extension may hold shops, offices and accommodation, and the top floor may have spaces open to everyone, such as a sauna, a lounge or a restaurant.

The aim is about 10,000 square metres of new floor space for the extension.

An area on Koskikatu is set aside for buses and for cars dropping people off.

The old Kukkola house on the same block stays protected, and its ground floor is meant for a restaurant or a shop.

No hotel operator, number of rooms or opening date has been announced. For a stay this winter or next, the plan changes nothing yet: there are no rooms on sale and no construction date.

The plan proposal will be on public display for 30 days, and statements have been requested from the Lapland Regional Museum and the Economic Development Centre of Lapland. The city aims to bring the plan to the city council in late winter 2027. Before that, the city and the landowner have to agree on a land use agreement.
